About
I have been a photographer for over twenty years on a casual basis. It has only been during the past nine or ten years that I have tried a more serious approach. I enjoy most aspects of photography but do not consider myself good at all of them. I love social documentary/street photography although this is now a little more problematical due to the very sensitive society we now appear to live in? I am also a Wedding photographer ( go to the links page for my business site ) and you have to like weddings to be able to get the best results you can for the couple. I do not consider myself good at still life or set portraits in the studio. My strong points are landscape and an intrest in using different cameras such as old cameras that are given, or from car boot sales. There is a strong historical theme in a lot of my landscape work such as old bridges, former Abbeys and other ruins. The area in North Yorkshire is awash with history from before the Romans to more recent times. The countryside is littered with the remains of fortifications, marker stones, buidings and all manner of mankinds use of the land during the past three thousand years. I like the effects that nature sometimes has on all this human history. The light we get here in North Yorkshire is in my opinion unique. I have been and lived in various parts of the world and there is nothing much to compare with this area around Masham. That is why a lot of my art prints have a theme of strong light in them, very often I photograph the light disregarding the subject. Pin hole photography is another main intrest and there will be more of that work appearing on the site shortly. The darkroom is another area that forms a very important part of my photographic practice. Given two lifetimes I might learn as much as some other photograpers and printers I know, again see my links page. I hope you enjoy the images on the site and contact me if you wish to ask or discuss any aspect of what is on view.
